Success Stories
Kylie
Running the Great Wall of China Marathon was a pipe dream for Kylie. She knew it was top of her wish list, despite not being able to really explain why. There were so many amazing runs out there to do, but it was just the one that needed to be her first international marathon. Forty was looming so why not pencil it in as a birthday present to herself?!
Shannon
Despite running from a young age, Shannon didn’t see herself as a ‘runner’. It wasn’t until she was forced to either quit running forever or undergo major surgery on both legs, that she realised how much it meant to her. Now every run is a celebration.
Grace
If you are looking for inspiration, look no further than one of our own Go Runners: Grace. Following on from Runner Stories blogs by Kylie and Caroline, this time around we profile Grace, who got back into her running with GoRun and is now taking on events and new challenges all the time. Grace chats about her running history, some of the benefits of being part of a group and how she uses running to manage stress. Check out the video
Caroline
Any attendees at GoRun Group will know Caz. Caz left Melbourne and moved to Switzerland with her husband, Michael at the beginning of 2019, where she is still running and progressing in leaps and bounds. However, Caz has suffered her fair share of frustrations as a runner, with tight and painful lower legs whenever she ran, an issue she never thought she would be able to break through. Thankfully things are on the up, but Caz wanted to share her story of the bumpy road to consistent running, as other runners suffering the same frustrations may be able to relate. Here is her story…
Trevor
Trevor is the first runner that Coach Chris ever coached, and his dad! Trev is now a spritely 65 years old and has run for recreation and fitness for over 30 years, completing 6 marathons, over 20 half marathons, plus many other shorter races road and trail races. Over a 14 week period, he was coached and prepared for the Great North Run half marathon, which takes place in his home town of Newcastle (UK) in mid September every year.
After he successfully ran his best half marathon time in 7 years (2:06:32), Coach Chris asked him to jot down his side of the story, and thought it would be great to share his response…
Scott
Meet Scott (aka Dr. Scott). Scott ran the Gold Coast Marathon with guidance and coaching from GoRun. Running one marathon is impressive. At the time of writing, Scott had run 7 marathons, which is really impressive. Running his fastest of all seven, by 73 seconds is super impressive, but none of this comes even close to Scott’s real story….
Susan
Susan is a busy business owner, with a love of rugby, technology and helping organisations and individuals realise their potential. Thank you to Susan for allowing us to share her running story…
Meagan
Meagan took on a year long challenge of endurance events in 2018, that in her own words, helped her ‘climb out of a dark hole’. In her runner story section, she shares what she learnt from the challenge and the final event - Ironman Busselton, Western Australia - and how she’s been keeping busy since then. Thank you to Meagan for allowing us to share her running story…
Tim
So many runners get injured through overtraining and have to then tread the delicate balance of coming back from injury, managing volume and intensity and also changing their mindset to their training. Tim was one of those runners who managed to navigate his way back and ended up surpassing all of his expectations both with his running but also his triathlon. Here is his story and the lessons that he learnt along the way. Thanks to Tim for sharing this with us.

Being a self confessed workaholic and having had serious health complications earlier in her life, led Debs to seek out life changes. A move to a new suburb and taking up running gave her a new lease on life, new goals and new friends. Now Debs is a hugely important part of several running communities including our own here at GoRun. Here is Debs’ inspiring running story…
Sheree
After having two kids, Sheree was ready to get back into running long distances. With her sights set on a half marathon, Sheree enlisted Chris as her Coach to help her gradually build up her distance and speed, and keep her accountable to her training. Sarah has come back to running after a full ankle reconstruction and has continued to push her own boundaries in terms of distances, times and her own image of herself as a runner. A self-confessed and named ‘Turtle,’ she loves the trails and the trail running community. In this blog she writes in her own words about her journey of taking up running, through to completing a marathon and tackling an ultra marathon in 2019. Thank you so much to Sarah for contributing this story. This one is for all the turtles out there…

Natalie
Since joining GoRun, Natalie Moore, has run a few long distance marathon or ultra distance events, including Chicago and New York Marathons! In this piece, she looks back at the Chicago Marathon in 2019 and reflects on some of the learnings that she had from that event, in particular how running and specifically long distance running is an emotional roller coaster! Nat's experiences in Chicago certainly resonated with other GoRunners and I wonder if they will resonate with you...
Sally
Sally took on the half marathon at Melbourne Marathon Festival with a goal of training consistently and working towards a new PB over the 21.1km distance. Her Achilles trouble was managed over 10 weeks of training and she grabbed a 4 minute PB on race day, with no achilles issues! A couple of great results all round! Here is her story...
Ali
After two unsuccessful attempts at training for a marathon distance, Ali was determined to make this attempt at Melbourne Marathon count. Shin splints and a dodgy back had hampered her previous attempts but with structure, accountability and a 6 month block of time to work with, she nailed her training and race day. Here is her story in her own words…
